Sony Vegas crashes Video Apps

Every time I open Sony Vegas 8, my video applications (winamp, windows media player, etc) skip and crash. I use dual monitors and I like having something to watch on one while I work in the other. It used to happen with after effects and vegas used to be fine, but lately its both.

1. Used to do it with my 512 meg but now I've got a 1 gig and it crashes.
