Game runs too fast

My game goes about twice as fast as it should when I play Deus Ex (the first one). It worked fine on my old computer but it always does this on my new computer with Windows XP. Is there any way to fix it?

Fast running can be caused by several things. If the fast running is constant, a simple way to fix it is to up your game settings to counter balane the effect.

however, if the fast-mo is at random, it is possibly your CPU power limit has gone a bit nutzo. However, i have no dea how to fix this at all :S

Other games work just fine on my computer. It's only Deus Ex that has trouble with the speed of the game.

try typing slomo 1.3?

Isn't this something to do with DX incorrectly labelling the speed of the processor? I'm pretty sure there is a command to set it back right :)

I think Marco had the same problem.

It might not be involved with your processor, but with your video card. A guy in CG (Blurs) had the same problem and it turned out to be his video card making his fps too high.

Are you running on a windows XP laptop?

What difference would a laptop make? Its either Windows XP Home/Pro, or it isn't. Whether its a laptop or not shouldn't make a difference. 8)

If its too fast fps, whats the problem then? Who wouldnt want too fast fps? If its not that, just people running around super fast, then its just the slomo speed set too high.
Just enabled cheats and type slomo 1.3 (dunno if thats the default, is it?)

Default is 1.
1.3 was used by icx.net, it's quite fast

50 is the best.

I got that once. i think its unbalanced net play, packet wise. me and a friend did it once with a hub and crossovers, we had no device to handle the packets, therefore it went fast. have a look at your net and modem settings. DX is sensitive

It's simply an AMD Energy saving processor "problem". If you are using Windows you simply have to set "Desktop" in the energy settings, not "minimum energy use".

(Unfortunately the German Windows version, but it should be obvious, though.)

The cause for the fast gameplay is that in energy saving mode (cool'n quiet) the processor multiplicator goes down and the cpu clock runs at e.g. 800MHz. This is the clock rate before the CPU is used by the game. If you start the game the CPU detection of DeusEx reads this Value and uses it instead of the 2000 MHz the game is actually running with (this is the full clock rate of my Athlon 64 3200+). So in my case everything in the game runs faster by the factor 2000/800 = 2.5.

The same problem occurs with Unreal, UT, Infiltration and all other Unreal Engine based games or mods.

I know what the probelm is, this has happened to me many times and I can fix it easily. Someone has screwed about with your game speed either on your server or on another server. The best way to get rid of it is to either recover computer thingy or host a game and change the game speed on the console.

Glad I'm not the only one annoyed by this.
