Ok, first off, a couple of obvious questions:

1: Can you play DX online with other players, without timing out?
2: Do you have latest version of DX (V1.12fm)?

If the answer is yes to the aboue, then run DX, select Multiplayer, Select LAN, then select Host Game button, then play around with the settings, and host. Wait about 1 minute, then disconnect. Then do the same on the internet mode, instead of LAN. This should have added the MapList to your DeusEx.ini, along with some other stuff, like the ability to set a server name, but worry not about that.
