Need help installing new dvd re-writer

ok guys ive connected the ribbon cable and power to the dvd rewriter, but no joy. i went to bios and set it up for auto detect (everything) still no joy.
im thinking now it has something to do with the master/ slave (whatever that is) jumper settings, however i aint got a clue about that stuff.

all i know is my normal dvd drive has 3 lots of 2 pins with the jumper on the left, like below

And my new dvd re-writer drive has 5 lots of 2 pins and the jumper is set to the far right, thus;

Set it to master if the cable goes direct to the mainboard, set it to slave if the ribbon passes through another drive first, eg, slave.

the ribbon passes through another drive first but i don't know which position the jumper should be in to make it in Slave mode.

It will tell you on a sticker, normally on the top of the drive, or in the manual.
