Erm, its possible to learn if you have a lot of time and determination, but its prolly best to find tutorials and stuff.

Like.....Chococat said. Probs best to find a tutorial, unless you can find some private specialist tutor who can be bothered to teach you lol.

I am not great at mapping, I only been doing it like a month, but I used the following site to get myself started:

http://tack.planetdeusex.gamespy.com/

Most people have heard of it, its a good place to start. ( read the 'getting started' section if you have no experience in mapping At All. )

Although.. The site seems to be down at the moment :?, Dunno if its just me or not. Should be running again soon.

Yours..

Takes years to master but only takes about a week or two to learn the basics... He said he wanted to learn how to map, not master it.

Anyway the best place to start would be http://www.planetdeusex.com/constructor/tutorials.htm

Thats where i learned the basics, hopefully you will too. 8)
Oh and try to keep all the measurements of brushes in the power of 2 like... 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048, 4069, 8192, 16384, 32768, 65536, 131072 ... Etc..

Jet if you need anything, help etc then go on msn. :D

EDIT, again  : Jet, im good, but there are people much better then me like mantra, zero presence etc.

A level cannot exceed 65536x65536x65536 in side, as the editor's, well, How should I put it... Area of workable space is only that size. (That, and a level that size would kill UEd before it even tried to load it properly =S )

DXMS was started by ClickAndKill(now retired from DX), Magus, and Jon, from what I remember.

.....Like I said earlier:

http://tack.planetdeusex.gamespy.com/

And like I also said, go to "The Absolute Basics: Getting started with the Deus Ex SDK."

In there is a link to download the 'Map Editor.'

Or.. if you'r too lazy, go to:

http://www.fileplanet.com/50191/downloa ... DK-v1112fm

For a link to the download. Its FilePlanet so you might need an account if you not got one already, only takes a second to get one though.

Or if you dont want to register with that then...

http://z14.invisionfree.com/DX_Mappers_ ... wtopic=105

then click dxms.co.uk to download it.

We finally got everything useful into one place, and its really easy to remember - http://www.dxms.co.uk

And, if you just want a place to download everything you need for the mapping side of DX, just bookmark http://www.dxms.co.uk/Website/downloads.html into your web browser

you can find most of the tutorials that Chris could be bothered to transfer into html on our site, but for the more late/advanced stuff, steer your browser to the 'Mapping Tutorials' section of our forums; http://z14.invisionfree.com/DX_Mappers_Society/index.php?showforum=15 - it has a more comprehensive list of the tutorials that we've thrown together. It would be best to use the tutorials if you're thinking about DXMP maps, because topics like my 'Beginner's guide to spawn rooms' is quite obviously for multiplayer mappers...

If don't get anything, be sure to let me know, and I can change it straight away to make it more understandable, or if you prefer a more personal guide, I can teach you what you want to know between fending off Spiderbot with a stick and trying to map somethign half decent for the next pack

you'd be surprised - with all of the stuff we're uploading/downloading a month, along with DXMS people uploading their own maps for others to download and test, its costing us £7 for the full month - might bump it up if we get more bandwidth use
