Maintenance

Postby Dae » Wed Apr 16, 08 4:58 pm

I've just started the process of moving dxalpha.co.uk onto my and Alex's own server in Germany. The process will take ~24 hours and during it the forum will be turned off for a couple of hours. Attachments, however, will work only as soon as the process is complete.

Download Archive has already been moved and is available here:
http://download.deusexnetwork.com

Our own server provides faster connection speed, response and better uptime.

Sorry for inconvenience caused!

I'm kinda used to DXALPHA having downtime. It doesn't happen often but when it does I can't really say I get fucked off about it. And that's because I'm pretty sure you guys are trying to work out all the kinks with it to get it back online.

No website can have 100% uptime. Even if it's hosted on a server that grants "100% Uptime." I believe you can't guarantee 100% of anything. It's stupid to even try.

And most of the 99.9% is bullshit.

Not true. My host, http://www.surreal-media.com guarantee a 100% uptime. And if you get any downtime they give you 20x more credit than the amount of downtime. So you'd get 20 hours of credit for 1 hour of downtime (the catch being that the credit can't cost more than your monthly payment).

Most downtime on a shared server (i.e. normal web-hosting) is caused by the users of the server, who constantly start resource-intensive scripts, like YouTube clones, or they just use too much resources and the server goes down. Average web-hoster hosts up to 350 sites on one machine.

On our own server we'll have about ten sites, either mine or Alex's.

Ten sites, lol. Not a helluva lot. Which is good for speed and less downtime.
