Media Players

Postby Mr. Tastix » Fri Aug 15, 08 3:43 pm

I didn't know where to put this topic so this is where it shall be. I'm sure some mod will come along and move it, if need be. So sorry for any inconvenience if you have to.

I'm looking for a very simplistic media player. One that will run MP3 files but support for other formats is also welcomed. If it can run playlist file types then that's also an added bonus, as is a feature to allow it to make it's own playlists (one or the other of course, doesn't have to be both).

When I say simplistic I mean I want it to have pretty much the bare basics. I don't really want a fancy GUI, just something that can play, pause and stop music. Skip to the next or preview songs, and preferably run and make playlists.

I'm looking for one via Google now but having no luck, so I thought I'd ask around here too. I'm looking for one because at the moment, I use Windows Media Player. I've tried iTunes but it is so not memory-friendly, it's just not funny and it's a fucking nuisance to use compared to WMP.

WMP works but, whilst it doesn't use as much resources as iTunes, it still uses more than I would like. The reason I want a damn simplistic one is because I want to use it for gaming purposes. I use a laptop for all my gaming needs, every one of my games has been played on this laptop (and run successfully, even if I had to play on the lowest video settings, I'm not one for graphics, I still play Doom FFS lol) but I hate listening to music whilst gaming because of the lag.

I like doing it, the lag puts me off though. All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Found http://www.videolan.org. Pretty good and simplistic, doesn't lag as much (yet to try it in-game, will now). So not used to not having access to my Fn function keys for quick Play/Pause and Forward/Back but I can get used to that, lol.

When I don't have my linux box pumping it out, I use JetAudio (http://www.jetaudio.com/) in the background of any game I'm playing. It has a different method for grabbing keys, so it works in most games.

VideoLAN would be the best, or it could be named VLC Media Player...

The best and most simple really, I suggest this.

As I said, I use WMP normally myself. It sucks, lol. I'll try these other ones too. Thanks.

VLC is fucking glitchy as hell. Every time I try to make a playlist it occasionally fucks up and stops working. Doesn't do it all the time but it does it enough for me to get fucked off at it, lol. Everything has it's downsides.
