That is a poor retort, the game suffers from awkward gameplay. The game does play like D3D, yes, fans of Duke will be grateful not much is changed beyond the Gearbox changes. The biggest problem is still the weapons but the game offers enough firepower for you if you didn't pick up the right weapons for fights.
You see, this is also the problem, it hasn't evolved much from a PC shooter from the early-mid 90s. There's an awkward scene or two where aliens get dropped off into battle against you but... they just stand there... waiting despite being dropped off to get you. The map design is almost having you walk in the same direction all of the time, not even DooM had you do that. Something positive to note is that the game shakes it up a bit with levels and the amount of extra content such as the apartment and bar/arcade, but other than that there's really not much to the game itself.
In defence of Duke, the only problem people shouldn't have are the misogynist comments thrown around especially at the hive level. While I admit that scene is awkward it's not as if it hasn't been done before in the series. (see me defending DNF here:

While I say this, and not towards Duke's misogynist tit slapping, the humour is absolutely awful in this game. It relies on internet fads from 10 years ago to memes. I miss movie quotes Duke, I would prefer the 80s and 90s film pop culture (which Duke was based on) over this AHHHHH ALL YOUR BASE, ARE BELONG TO US 00s internet pop culture (make Duke a faggot nerd then).
The game is an utter disappointment for the 5 years of this build in development, let alone the 12-14 years. Sorry, do you want me to be more constructive with each post highlighting how terrible games are?, let me go ahead and do that.
