don't worry — it's a common problem

do you have WinZIP or WinRAR?

if so, right click on the SDK file you downloaded and open it as an archive
then extract the contents of the archive to your DeusEx/ folder

they all open in powerarchiver anyways
msot have .exe which gets stroppy with version info

the one i manually installed though still didn't work, one of the files had problems
this may be due to me extracting to the wrong location however

where should the files go?

I'm sorry, but no new links would help if you're a total computer newbie.

try again
open the archive
select all the files
find DeusEx/ folder (most likely My computer -> C: -> Deus Ex or Program Files/DeusEx)
then drag'n'drop all the files from the archive to DeusEx folder

you should install ConEdit from ConEdit folder to launch SDK

if that doesn't work just tell me WHAT EXACTLY doesnt work, e.g. if it crashes with error, copy the error text here

the SDK seems to open most maps including multiplayer but there one or two that it doesnt do anything with

is this becuase these are protected against editing in some way?

Some maps are protected by Nobody's Map Protection Tool, but in most cases it's because you don't have all the packages that the map depends on.

When you modify a map and then host it, the players which already have it, won't be able to join your server. And vice versa: you won't be able to play the servers which host it, too.

yeah I renamed the map but it won't come up with a map drawing on either of them when loaded
probs map protected
does that work still when you copy and rename?

If it dosen't come up with the map when loaded, you're missing a package.

the Map Protection Tool causes an editor GPF when you try to open up a protected map.

After attempting to load a map, press "View" -> "Log".
It should show you which file its missing.

The Spambot is indeed correct.

You may have to do it multiple times, since you may be missing more than one file.

In UED2 I believe it's View -> Log, and in SDK it's Window -> Log
