Really Low FPS

Postby Kamikaze » Sat Jun 17, 06 4:44 am

I just bought a new computer, a MacBook, and after installing Windows on it using Boot Camp I installed Deus Ex. The only problem is that it is running with very low FPS. It stays at a somewhere between 2-5 at all times even during the start up screen. At first I thought it may be because I had just gone ahead and transferred my User.ini and DeusEx.ini files directly over, but then I uninstalled the game and reinstalled it with completely new files and I'm still getting this problem. I wasn't sure if anyoe has ever come across this before, but if anyone knows how to fix this it would be greatly appreciated.

Try experimentating with rendering devices - just hit the button in Main Menu > Settings > Display > Rendering device. If it is hard to do (I guess it is with 3 fps), open DeusEx.ini and set FirstRun variable to 0 (it's in the beginning of the file). After launching Deus Ex you will get a screen where you can choose rendering device. Check how it works on each one.

That's all I can think of on the moment.

It may be because of the No-CD crack. I don't think that's the reason, but who knows, maybe a laptop wasn't meant to run that game without a CD.

Try uninstalling again, and in the first time setup, pick software rendering.

Go into deusex.ini find the line CDPath=D: change it to CDPath=..

There is no need to have a no-cd crack for DX.

That's what I recommended =/ But it isn't necessary to uninstall the game for this.

Ok, I've decided to make a demorec of what's happening. This is what it looks like when I'm using Direct3D with VSync turned off and all of the display settings set to allow for best performance. As you'll see it's not giving me really low FPS anymore, it's just that the FPS is constantly changing between 30 and 50. Also, you'll note that the load screen doesn't appear until a few seconds after I'm in the game itself, and on top of that my health keeps flashing. At one point I attempt to bring up stat net, but it doesn't work. I'm hoping this will give somebody a better idea as to what is happening, because as of right now I have no idea. Software Rendering did pretty much the same thing, just with worse graphics.

Ok, so I have an update on this. First off, games like HL and AVP 2 run fine on this computer, but DX is still having problems. When I was at a friend's house DX seemed to run fine, but when I brought the computer back home, it continued to have the same problems, so I don't know what this means.

My method for the nocd crack has always been:

1.) completely erase CDPath=
2.) download the original .exe from dxdb.co.nr (not the one where the sold out logo loads up)

also you gotta use the original .exe for linux

Go in to dx.

Type "Preferences"

You could mess around with your display settings, like desired frame rate etc.

Also, if you go into rendering you can change settings there that could help.

Download the updated .dll files for ogl and d3d, i think Konami made a topic about them on this forum somewhere...

Ok, I've finally got stat net to come up, so I've made another demorec. You'll notice that the packets going in and out are very low, along with the ping constantly changing.

I have just realised I get this error with my Unreal Tournament for some reason. It lags so badly, so I cannot even open a menu and select "exit" there.
I'll do my best to find out the way to fix it.

I'm close to a solution :) Go to your Deus Ex directory, find DeusEx.exe and make a copy of it (rename it to whatever you want, let's say blahblah.exe). Then launch it and tell me if your problem is still there.

By the way, are you that Kamikaze who wrote those dxorg and "Skyward Fires" tracks?

No, I'm not. But I'll try that as soon as I get my game working again. PimpToad told me to do a clean install including clearing out the registry files. Well, when I went to reinstall it, it froze in the middle of installation. All that's missing are the Effects and the file that allows me to uninstall the game. It seems to let me reinstall it as soon as I enter Windows, but it keeps freezing everytime. I think I may have a virus, so I need to find my Anti-Virus software first.

This is kinda an old topic, but anyway...

I tried that link for the original deusex.exe but it said this page cannot be displayed or 404 file not found or something, so could someone please send me the deusex.exe that doesn't have the sold out software logo thing ( davitz_rules@hotmail.com :P )?

The "crack" is actually a patched .exe. See the link 3 posts above.

Lets try something obvious. Did you install all of your video drivers in windows?

I have the same notebook it runs great with deus ex on max settings 1280x800 however half-life 2 chugs.

Download the latest official Intel gma945 drivers the ones apple bundles with boot camp suck. (If you experience ANY problems with these ones uninstall them.)

Use the open gl fix. And make sure to use open gl for rendering.

Also make sure to manually set the affinity for deus ex to only one core, windows does some strange things with its resource management on smp systems.
