Linux Server

Postby Alistair » Sun Jul 02, 06 3:07 pm

Im hosting a DX Server under the Linux distro Debian. The server seems to be running fine and I encourage people to test it, it is hosted from my home Computer and Connection. If the server proves to be Stable then I encourage Nayno to compile the lastest Wine and run DX!

It is called "Kon's Linux Server [BETA]"

Click Link below to connect -->

dxmp://dxlinux.no-ip.org

thanks :)

Not too bad. =]

What version are you using?
(stable/unstable/testing? kernel 2.4/2.6? X.org?)

You're best bet to get a stable DX server under Linux is currently Ubuntu-Server. (Untill Debian makes the full move to X.org)

Aye, ubuntu is nice in that sort of way.

I compiled my kernel myself and selected the packages, so i basically have enough to build sources and run basic stuff. I have sound working etc so its cool.

Kernel 2.6

xfree86

stable

ps, did the link to the server work dude?

Ubuntu has really grown up.

It's actually a serious Debian contender now.
(And the developers are getting sick and tired of waiting for Debian to play catch-up.)

aye, the beauty of Ubuntu is that the developers grab "unstable" packages from the debian resporitorys and make them stable aswell as new. Debian users mostly use testing/unstable resps because the stable packages are so out of date but using unstable causes all sorts of problems. Ubuntu is powerfully driven by the community

Me using minimalistic "Fluxbox" interface, everything is accessed by right clicking and commands.

Check out the memory usage^^ Nice huh?

I've also figured how to copy and transfer files from my windows partition which is useful

PM me the details, I'll check it all after I've finished moving. :)

Edit: By details, I mean what the project is, etc.
