Buy it for me bob baeb.

Also, ET:QW has potential, I was playing it around 1-2 this morning, only thing that pisses me off is the Icarus, which is why I am field ops.

AVT + Icarus = Kills

Mini-ET-QW Review.

Enemy Territory isn't much changed from the original, and it doesn't do much to attract from the get go. A rather uninspiring, drudgery loading screen at the beginning does not help. But once you get through to your server of choice, the fun does begin.

Those that played the original ET will instantly recognize things like the layout on the loading menu, the limbo screen, and the classes. Obviously a few revisions have been made.

I can imagine no persistent unlocks only appealing to the hardest of the hard, as most will be familiar with similar games such as BF2 and BF2142 wherein you keep all your points and unlockables. Although the ones in ET:QW are much more varied, there are 4 sections of unlocks. One that specifically relates to your class, one that relates to your main weapon (Heavy or Light), one that relates to your secondary weapon, and the returning "battle sense", which is basically XP for how long you stay alive. Each section has 4 unlocks.

Once you get into the game, it isn't TOO disorientating, although it still is to a degree, something which most seasoned FPS gamers will get used to rather quickly, especially players of the larger kind, but newbies to the genre will still be very confused, as the various on-screen queues only serve to hinder more than help.

As an idea of what goes on in the game, I will recount what happened on my first 3-5 deaths of my first game.

I get in, choose GDF and FDOps (Field Ops), and scroll through my weapons. As I have some idea of what to do, indicated by the missions at my top left, I choose provide artillery support. I find my deploy binoculars, and request a "hammer launcher". This is what I understand to be, more or less, a nuke. A long cooldown and re-arm timer, and devastation all around.

I check my map to see the next objective, which happens to be a bottleneck in a tunnel. Hammer rendered useless. Why is that mission avaliable if I can't fire into a tunnel? Oh well. I run out the other side and lase an anti-personnel turret. 30 seconds or so later, I see the underwhelming unchanged terrain, the relatively small blast radius, compared to my comrades artillery cannon, which shells them at least 5 times to my count. I shrug it off and decide to do some ground pounding.

"Escort the MCP" I am told, so I find the MCP, and realise it is fully functional, but with 12 people on my team, they still can't seem to drive it somehow. Is pressing G that hard? I enter the MCP unresisted and more-or-less train my way to the target, shooting the odd enemy jetpack on the way.

I am spotted by an enemy in what seems to be some sort of Strogg aircraft, and am almost instantly downed. I click engineer and try again. My team suddenly kick into gear, and suddenly we are playing like gangbusters. SSM launched from the MCP, forward spawn captured, and SSM is intercepted. -- WAIT WHAT? Why launch an SSM if it is clearly going to be intercepted by their shield generator? Okay, covert ops. Hack the objective. Problem is, they've got anti-artillery, and three anti-personnel turrets surrounding the area, according to my fireteam. so I get in the attack chopper-thing, and pound the shit out of them. 12 or so kills my way, objective hacked.

SSM launched again, and apparently we have to bomb their target. Everyone on my team is Heavy at the moment so before I can even respawn after my accidental suicide (flew into the shield generator), I get told 30 seconds until big boom. 30 seconds later, GDF Win.

All in all, the game is fun, you cannot deny it that. But it isn't anything groundbreaking. Once you've seen one tactical shield or Dark Matter cannon being launched you've seen them all, and apparently my first game was exceptional, because the next 5-20 games I played my team communicated twice as less than bots on single-player.

It tries to be everything to everybody and ultimately thats what lets it down. It tries to appeal to the hardcore, and it tries to cater to the newbies. When worlds collide bad shit happens, and that bad shit is evident when playing the game. The original ET did it better, this game should leave this type of subgenre to the Battlefield series and try something original possibly. If you can never have too many FPS games, this is for you. If you like mediocre games and aren't the type of guy looking for something that WILL make you say "WOW!" more than once, this isn't for you.

The maps are massive but are bottlenecked by objectives, rendering those hillsides only good for Strogg with railguns, an unfair advantage, or pointing at when your friends come round and wonder what game that is on the shelf. The graphics are nothing special, not too good not too shabby, but with games like Crysis coming out this is pretty sad. This game missed the boat by about 3 years, and gamers are always looking for the next big thing. This certainly isn't providing.

6/10.
