The UE 3 trend is really starting to antagonise me. When developers are leased the license, they are given the base of the code (which made up GoW). Now (due to laziness or poor financial status) developers just don't bother rewriting or editing it and just stick with the same GoW concept. Examples anyone: Dark Sector, The Club (a shiny gold coin to whomever tells me the engine of The Club), Army of Two, the upcoming APB (read my thread for more info) and [almost] Turok.

I'm not an expert, but the black market (in this case its piracy) and speculation evolve when the average price on the market is too high for the customers. I think that the price of 40-60 euros even for a new game is over the top. I doubt such price is dictated by high costs of devs, and their losses from reducing it could be compensated by sales boost.

This is the strategy of legal software and game distributors in Russia. Since the income of an average family here is many times smaller than in Europe, when software and games were sold at European prices, noone was buying any of that.

Now they changed the strategy and reduced the prices, and it becomes harder to find a counterstriker with a pirated version of his favourite game. When I bought my jewel box with HL2 and CS:S a year ago, it costed 8 euros.

High prices are probably due to the big companies trying to make every buck they can possibly make when they know most "clients" will go with pirated products anyway.

63.29 eur for crysis in a shop near me currently. i would never pay that kind of money for a game that will be 14 euros in few years, or in a year if its popularity is shortlived.

You see what you kids need to do?, 3 things, buy games you WILL enjoy. If you want to try something, try the demo, if there is no demo, demo the full game at a friends.

Not all kiddos can buy games, or have friends! Haha, anyway, I prefer to spend my money on other stuff rather than computer games... Like clothes and outgoing and holidays and stuff like that. That's why for the most part I download games, why pay if I can do it for free? I recently spend around €600 in total to upgrade my PC (new duo core CPU, more RAM, new motherboard, 8800gts videocard, power supply, so I'm no cheap bastard either) after this I don't really feel like being a new game for €60 when I can just turn on my computer and download a game over night... Oh demo's suck in my opinion, and most come out rather... bugged

Nicky is on the wrong path of thinking but I know he realizes what good and whats not when he thinks a bit. A lot more people think like him, perhaps majority.
While I dont spend 60 eur on a game, I occasionally buy the games i like /liked for 15 or around that, but i nearly always download the game first :)

As I recently played bloodlines and with all its bugs it managed to top deus ex in my book, so I am very much looking forward to buying it even though Ive finished it (once though, great replay value)

edit: horrid gramer here but its past 1am so ill claim to be a hill billy.

Oh?
Lets just say one day you upload something to some special part at the bottom of the forum that doesn't exist, but lets say it does, someone can just take your IP and report it. They can forward it to the company and they can decide if they want to prosecute you or not as a pusher of pirating.

Just saying, it really is that simple and likely, seeing as online plagiarism and pirating is normally put down as theft to make it a more credible case. Hell you can put in prison for a month or two if you get caught connecting to a private or personal WLAN in the UK (without permission of course). Don't get me wrong it isn't a threat but it is a huge risk to pirate, let alone say you pirate publically.

So if I say I drive a light blue van with a flower on the back left corner, making circles around sandpits and offering candy, you are going to report me?

I may have to paint the van now.

I have to laugh at my warning though. It is so.. typical. I hate to use that word but when it comes to these forums it seems to hit the spot with certain admins.
A person directly insults another forumer using foul language, and he gets nothing. My reply which was interpreted the way the admin currently felt like gets a yellow card.
You see, you often misunderstand my posts, so I am actually used to that, but when I look at the non-existing warning the other person received it really does make one wonder : )

lol WHAT

You see, I saw [racism][warn] between your picture URL, then you edited it out yourself and replaced with a different picture it seems when I came to check. So then I gave you the warning. It looks like I wasn't the only one intent on warning you so would it seem that 2 people didn't understand your posts?. So I don't know what your mixed up gibberish is about, really.

You don't understand this post by the way, its encoded with piranhas and if you claim to have read it you're a liar.

I habitually edit my submitted posts several times, hoping that nobody replies yet. I did not see what you are talking about. What I saw was a picture that I did not like on the second thought and second picture that did not load to begin with, as the host was being clever. Then I found what I was looking for.

That is all I will say. I could bring out two further points to address in your post, but I wont. It is useless, something Ive learned again and again on these forums during the years.

But by that time the game development river would have gotten better looking, longer and shallower to the point where bottom-feeders feel on top.
