THG - Setting Dual Core Processor Affinity

Postby Jon » Tue Apr 29, 08 8:46 pm

A nice little application that includes manually setting a processor's affinity as opposed to going into the process manager and setting it, but the real beauty of it is the 'rules' tab thats included - allows automatic processor affinity whenever a certain program is run.

Useful for old games that aren't familiar with Dual Core technology, i.e Deus Ex, Unreal Tournament.

A nice alternative to AMD's Dual Core Optimizer, and also allows you to push your dual core's to the limit.

Somewhat relevant:

What exactly is this work around? I'm writting a guide on using DX with Vista and it could help

It's simply an executable which makes the makes the executable always boot on one core. I attached it to this PM, if everything went right

Usage: You put it in the directory of the game executable
(like C:\Deusex\System\)

Then go to that specific directory in cmd and type the following:

Code: Select all
imagecfg -a 0x1 deusex.exe

This works for all games and to simply make it work for other games, you obviously just put it in the game's directory change the command to "imagecfg -a 0x1 WhateverGameExecutableIsNamed.exe"

Don't have the time to properly explain it in full detail at the moment, so if anything is unclear, just ask.

Dunno if it's the same file or not..

No its not, Imagecfg is an exec that edits system files, and doesn't always work on some programs i.e. Counter-Strike: Source. With this option, no need to edit any system files at all because affinities are set 'manually' by the program.

Bumpathon.

Using a Core i7 950. Would I set affinity to just one core, e.g. CPU 0?

And I'm hosting dedicated AND playing on same machine. What would I do for best performance (especially for server)

So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.
