Gaming PC

Is it viable to make a semi-decent gaming Desktop PC for ~$1,000 (give or take $100).

Just wondering because if so, that owns for me, if not then I have to save up an extra $1,000-$1,500 for one ($2,500 was my original budget but that doesn't look too viable at this point, and while I could do what I want with that much I don't have the time/ability to get it).

Clearly, at this cost, anything which can be scrapped for cheaper parts will be. Shit like the case (seriously, aesthetics mean hardly anything to me, surer I'd love it if looked cool but how often does the case help improve framerate?).

Hell, I'm not even worried if I can't play graphics on high detail (I've been playing them on low for the past 4 years, it's nothing new to me). I just want something decent enough that won't lag all of my games out (even on low lol) but also won't break my bank.

All help is greatly appreciated, if this is even viable (was 3 years ago, but we're not in 2005 anymore lol).

Just recently got a new PC. I think you should wait till the new Intel parts come down the pipeline, so you would be able to get a discount on all the current mobos and processors. They should be out early 2009.

And as far as NZD and the ridiculous prices you guys are paying, why is it so high. Currency exchange rates list the 1 NZD equal to .75 CDN. So how do you get a markup of basically 4 Times the cost?

With China and Japan so close, you'd expect any kind of shipping charge to be fairly reasonable.

Yeah, I know. I want to save $2,500 because the only real place I can get parts is on European and American sites, which means I also have to pay for exchange rates and shipping costs.

1 NZD = 0.58 USD
1 NZD = 0.45 EUR
1 NZD = 0.36 GPB
1 NZD = 0.70 CDN
1 NZD = 57.29 YEN

Buying parts from Canada wouldn't be much of a problem, not that I know many sites that sell parts in any country apart from New Zealand (and it doesn't sell all the parts).

The real reason for the post is to ask if it's even viable now, it was a few years ago, I want to know if it is now.

Buying the parts and building your custom PC will most likely be cheaper, though by building your own customised PC you do not get any warrantys or any garuntees that it'll function correctly.

I assume you would get warranties on most (if not all) of the individual parts however, including the OS. Which, in turn, could pretty much entitle the same thing?
