The arrogance of the film industry.

So I saw Transformers 2 the other day and thought it was dreadful. I had willingly paid £6.80 to see a CGI clipshow. I had probably given Michael Bay £5 to make another one. I had felt hard done by as I believed the sequel will only improve on the original formula. So I had been drawn in to a self sense of security whilst Hollywood robbed me blind. I felt so disappointed by this I was considering why I can't get a refund. You can with everything else. Don't like it, take it back. Of course films are a totally different commodity as each individual has his/her own opinion on them; and as we can see with the Movie Confession thread, some of them think quite differently. Unlike household appliances, for example, where it is black or white; it fulfills its task or it doesn't. So, obviously a refund scheme is hard to formulate. However, it has only dawned on me today on what that means to the viewing public. We essentially have no say as to whether it was entertaining or not; unlike every other product we purchase. The consumer has no input to movie standards. It obeys no rules of standard business practices. That's why people download illegally, to avoid the feeling of being conned.

So I believe there should be a form of tariff in place with cinemas and if the movie turns out to be a real stinker then the studio will be punished with lack of turnover and therefore will make them think more wisely next time. Of course you can't have everyone coming demanding their ticket price back after watching the entire film. So perhaps the customer is entitled to a refund until the half-way point of the film and for every 10-15 minutes of the movie watched, the refund entitled to the customer is reduced by 10% from, say, an 80% refund (cinema's expenses still covered).

In general I believe this method to be invaluable in the slowdown of piracy and the rejuvination of the film industry as a whole, as they will actually research what people may want.

Those twins were indeed ridiculus and the movie itself was too long. Too much action and when it's not action then it's 10 seconds romance or a couple jokes. I liked the first episode but not this one. I wouldn't demand a refund though because it was basically entertaining.
Terminator Salvation was much better.
