So you're saying 267mb > 50mb? Besides, that's with more than two tabs open and FF2 used far more then that. My point still stands. 267mb? Pfft. Either live with it or use something else. Or is that too EASY for you?

Well, Chrome is definitely better than Firefox 3, however don't like the fact that I'm being monitored.

Shut up Psy and go open up 10 websites for 30 mins, then close them and go back to DXALPHA. Enjoy the memory usage NEVER going down unless you destroy the Firefox process completely. Stefan tried to say the same thing to me but he posted the truth above.

Let's test your theory then. 10 tabs will make it increase yes, but not so much as to make me stop using it. I play games which use 1gb of memory, why the hell would I care if FF uses 200mb?

I don't use FF for speed, I use it because IE sucks shit and FF has decent controls for CSS and HTML (unlike IE). The plugins are also an added bonus.

May I also add: 10 minutes, constant 137-142mb. Oh and you bypassed my point entirely. 50mb is still nowhere near 267mb. Learn some fucking Maths.

EDIT: And, for the record, I'll be one of the first to admit that Chrome and other browsers are much faster than FF. But I like Firefox, I'm used to Firefox, and Chrome is a piece of shit that I fucking hate. Oh and 15 minutes, no rise in memory. So uh, when does it start increasing then?

Semi-true.

Chrome is pretty barebones yes, but Firefox you must agree has become more and more overloaded with unnecessary shit.

Like what? I don't notice much about the updates except that it's apparently "Faster" when I don't notice much of a difference. It still does all the shit it did 2 versions ago, so yes I can see it being called bloatware.

But NOT because it uses more than 250mb memory. I've had this thing on for 30 minutes now (wee bit over). My results (memory usage):

Minimum: 136mb
Maximum: 160mb
Average: 140mb

That's not much to me only because I'm used to shit using well over 200mb memory (the Adobe Creative Suite for one, C4D, map editors I've been trying to learn and games, but the latter is a-given).

EDIT: I will admit that James is right about it taking ages to go down in memory consumption when you close tabs. But still, how the FUCK did you use 267mb with TEN tabs? I wanna bloody try now.

I'm sorry, but to me it doesn't matter to me how much memory Firefox uses lol

Also there's like no features on it, it's very basic for a browser lol. My Firefox doesn't have optional skins, useless plugins etc. Just what I need only (Java, Flash etc.)

Right now its using 167,000 K with 6 tabs open lol, just fyi

Yes, exactly, that's what I thought too. I like the Add-ons and do have a few (FlashGot and GreaseMonkey). I am retrying Chrome now. Definitely doesn't use as much RAM (which I already knew) and it has a frigging inbuilt dictionary, at least that's one good thing about it.

I've already told you all what my download speed is. It's LOWER than your one (if yours is still 512kb/s). I also used to run on dial-up back when DSL was the norm simply because NZ sucks in terms of internet speeds (two cities are apparently getting 100 megabit connections in a few years but these are two cities I won't be living in lol).

Learn how RAM works. Firefox shouldn't stay at 250mb+ when only 1 tab is open. A bit BLOATED don't you think?

Learn to read. No, I do NOT think it's bloated. Because IT DOESN'T USE THAT MUCH FOR ME. I said that in prior posts, if you knew how to read you would have known that.

I guess I expected too much.

Bliss is a lie.

You still haven't answered my question. Why you think 267mb is LESS than 50mb is beyond me, why you think that I would think 50-100mb should make me consider it as "bloatware" when I clearly mentioned I use programs that use 5x more than that, is also beyond me.

I do not consider Firefox bloatware because bloatware provides minimal functionality, but also uses a lot of CPU and RAM. Firefox uses neither compared to other software I use. Firefox also has a LOT of functionality in regards to what I do.

What

Seeing as you keep dodging the truth, tell me why Firefox can't even 40% of the time manually shut itself down since 2.0? For 4 years on 5 different computers I've had to use task manager to end processes of it (more if I got impatient and clicked 6 times, thank fuck for End Process Tree) to start it up FireFox because ONLY ONE INSTANCE OF FIREFOX CAN BE RUNNING AT ONE TIME

This isn't an opinion war, this is pure fact. Just because you like something doesn't mean it doesn't have flaws so stick that HURRR DURRR ITS USABLE in your gob, you may as well use IE because that's certainly usable.

1. I can run multiple instances of Firefox. The correct point to make is one instance of the process. Not the program itself.

2. It closes fine for me. But hey, what else is new?

3. Dodging the truth? Lack of flaws? Are you a MORON? I already admitted Chrome is better than Firefox, in regards to speed. Basic functionality-wise they're similar, customization-wise Firefox wins hands-down.

4. Again: LEARN TO READ. YOU keep dodging the fact that I HAVE STATED THE FLAWS. And stated that I DO NOT CARE. It works fine for me. And not for YOU. You may not be fine with it, so what? USE SOMETHING ELSE. See this?

Myself wrote:Chrome and other browsers are much faster than FF. But I like Firefox, I'm used
to Firefox, and Chrome is a piece of shit that I fucking hate.

In your mind does that translate to "FIREFOX RULES FIREFOX RULES FIREFOX RULES FIREFOX RULES FIREFOX RULES FIREFOX RULES FIREFOX RULES FIREFOX RULES FIREFOX RULES FIREFOX RULES FIREFOX RULES FIREFOX RULES FIREFOX RULES FIREFOX RULES!"

Because it actually means that I know Chrome is faster. But Chrome is also extremely bare-bones, as Protocol stated. It has no AddOns, and I like how Firefox does have that customization.

This IS an opinion war. Why? Because I haven't avoided the facts, I just don't care (about it's flaws). Firefox works for me, and not for you. But your fucking ignorance can't see past your OPINION of Firefox sucking so bad, for YOU.

I did say to use something else. One of the first things I said. As it turns out, that IS too easy for you to do.

In the light of STEAM, I'm today abandoning FireFox for either K-Meleon or Opera.

Well anyways, I ran some tests and found out it does use a lot of RAM. Maybe it's because of the temporary internet files? They get deleted when I close Firefox.

Firefox, with 10 tabs open, three of which are youtube videos, two are wikipedia links, three are forums, and two are huge images loading on DeviantART. Less than 3% processor usage.

Image

Cinema 4D 64-bit, 100% processor usage, rendering a 1920 x 1200 scene with high polys and AO:

By the way, does anyone know if Firefox is available in 64-bit version?

Yeah it's that, but it shouldn't be dumped into RAM and stay there when you close their tabs.

History and bookmarks are managed under the same window. DJ sees bookmarks and tags, but there is no "history" which should be above tags.
