Absolute shitstorm going down on EM forums over the news that the distant object highlighting will not be optional.
Nothing at all about the modernization of DX disturbed me in the slightest, but after viewing the most recent gameplay trailers, I have to admit, it's pretty disturbing.
The HUD is quite busy anyway, but it seems when you enter a room, anything interactive, like a box, or a ladder, or turret, will suddenly AND FROM ACROSS THE ROOM, highlight itself with an orange glow. In some portions of the gameplay video there are something like 10-20 pieces of orange flashing at you, between objects and HUD info.
Let's recap. In DX1, highlighting only swung into action when you were within arm's reach, or frob distance. In DX1 such things that were obviously interactive, such as ladders were not highlighted. In DXHR, you will open the door to a room and the ladder on the opposite side of the room will suddenly glow orange. (You can see I'm not a fan of this).
I fail to see how this cool gimmick can work in a game of Deus Ex. My choices are being made for me, there's no mystery, discovery or intrigue.
What do you think?
