Very annoyed at that... Hope we don't emulate Chelsea now with a new manager every season

Rafa back anyone?

I'd happily take Rafa back. Apparently it's either Rodgers (please no), or Martinez (dont mind him).

I don't want Rafa back.

Tbh, i wouldn't be horrified if either Rodgers or Martinez was given the job.

I hate waiting for a new manager. We need to make a appointment before the Euros so that we can possibly get some pre-transfer window deal, without the inflated fee following a competition.

He's super talented. I'd happily take him, though he'd need time. He's probs one, if not the, best young manager in Europe.

You base this off on 1 succesful season with Porto?

Nope. He had a good season with Academica aswell.

Also, his football philosphy is great, his weak point maybe is his man managment and authority. He was undermimed by Lampard and Terry @ Chelsea, which could possibly happen at Liverpool, where he is younger than some of the players, but if he can handle the dressing room, I think he's a great manager.

At Porto, he had a great season, which was more incredible that they lost their captain (can't remember his name - for like £17million), and Meireles, Porto's two main midfielders, and he had to rebuild the midfield and how they play.

At Chelsea, he was ordered to rebuild the clubs playing style, and personnel, and wasn't given the time to do this.

I'd say AVB is probably the best choice in the names I've heard mentioned so far. Apart from maybe Pep Guardiola which is just impossible to get anyway. I'd prefer Rafa though, and I'm not convinced by AVB still. He had a great season with Porto and yes did alright with Academica considering the position they were in, but if you were to judge him by his record from Academica then there's no reason why Martinez wouldn't be equally suitable for Liverpool. Because in all fairness it's not THAT great, he just saved them from relegation? And reached a semi-final. I got wiki open for that because I didn't know that, it's kind of impressive I suppose but it doesn't say too much about how he's the man for Liverpool more then Martinez. His Porto record is very good but then again in Portugal it's always just Porto or Benfica or Sporting Lisbon with Porto being the most succesful overall, so it's not THAT much to go by.

I guess we don't have much too choose from with the position we're in so yes, apart from (imo) Rafa, AVB would be the best shot. Provided he's given the time. Which even Kenny wasn't given despite bringing us to 2 finals, winning one of them.

Edit: I actually might be sold at the idea of AVB now, just read this analysis of his tactics, by a woman no less.

Pretty awesome

I spent like 10 mins trying to find that link, but couldn't find it so gave up :p

I'd prefer Rafa yes, but I don't think the owners will go back to another past manager, and will want their own man. Martinez would be a big gamble, as would AVB, but AVB has managed a bigger club, and knows the pressures of managing a bigger club.

When he took over at Porto, they finished 3rd the season before, and then when AVB took over he had to rebuild alot of the team, and finished the season, having won everything worth winning, unbeaten in the league, with a 90%+ win record.

That's the problem with getting AVB, one bad season and he can potentially get sacked. I think it will take time for AVB to impliment his own style, while other managers can be instantly succesful.

Louis Van Gaal is apparently going to be the new sporting director :o If we do get him, then I'd say we are going to go for a young manager, with the experience of Van Gaal helping/

Now hearing news about Van Gaal being approached for the manager role. Wouldn't be a bad thing, dislike the man's character but he's a good manager. Not getting my hopes up though

I don't know who Liverpool should have as the manager, every name i've heard of dosn't fill me with a lot of confidence, not doubting their ability at all, but this reminds me of the Hodgson appointment so much.

Hodgson has a decent season with Fulham, Liverpool bring him in, does bad, sacked, moves to West Brom, has another decent season, ENGLAND JOB.

Whilst of course, those were different circumstances with the takeover happening at the time, but the same principle can be applied.

Martinez has a decent season with Wigan (ie, kept them in the PL), now he's gonna get the Liverpool job, i just hope lightning dosn't strike twice.

All i know is whoever gets appointed, i'll back them 100%,
