They could make singleplayer less annoying by just having a 30-60 second grace period for someone losing their connection, as opposed to kicking them out right away.

Legit complaints:

-Whining about latency
-Whining about game length. They did promise a long game of "epic" proportions, people are completing all difficulties far too quickly.
-Whining about always on DRM

Frankly, I'm used to Blizzard making half-assed shit these days.

That sounds really cynical but frankly, I believe their WoW fanbase has spoilt the living hell out of them.

There are still some people who don't fool into the whole "instant gratification" scene, and harder difficulties should be made to accommodate these people. Frankly, I don't see many of the "instant loot" people going much further than Normal anyway.

Latency and DRM are probably one and the same, really: Latency is most likely being caused due to the horrible DRM.

Oh it is. I'm sure it's a reference to a series we love.

It was great last night when Bale used it and I soaked up 5 fireballs for him!

Unless the site I brought the game from is now trolling it's customers, I should expect a dispatch within 2-3 days.

The only reason I'd ever want a better phone is for SMS authentication.

I had an actual Battle.net Authenticator. "Had" being the keyword there.

I asked my friend what there is to do after you beat the game. he replied with...

"beat it on harder difficulties, and find better gear"

I said...

"That's it?"

Don't get me wrong. Diablo 3 is a fun game; but the lack of game/re-play is making me wait. If PvP arena is implemented, and a lot more content is added on to the game, I will consider buying it.

"New content" would probably be nothing more than new dungeons, PvP content, new loot, or something related to those.

The point of Action RPGs like Diablo is to kill hordes of monsters in the hopes of getting that one awesome rare. If you're not a fan of farming endless amounts of enemies for that slim chance whilst simultaneously levelling up your character, Diablo 3 really isn't for you, and neither are games like it.

I also don't get why people ask what there is to do in a game "after you beat it". At the end of the day it's still largely a one-off singleplayer game. It's not an MMO where you will go into an infinite loop of gearing up and doing new raids (there usually is a definitive "end" to an Action RPGs grind).

What do you do when you finish Mass Effect? Nothing. You might play it again or finish the side-quests you missed but then what? You do nothing. What about Deus Ex? You can play these games as different classes or with different skills/weapons but ultimately, that's about it. The game itself doesn't necessarily change on the next playthrough, and this is largely similar to action RPGs like Diablo.

I don't know if Diablo 3 is like that - Blizzard might have some sort of "end-game" in store for it - but I'm not really counting on it.

The goal of the Diablo series is to kill monsters in randomly generated environments and placements of a lot of things. You should understand that's why Diablo is fun and addictive because most playthroughs are never the same (at least in the first two installments) and this helps surprise you and keeps it fresh.

There's a ton of stuff that modifies this too, such as; beating higher difficulties, playing hardcode mode and more - then redoing it as every other class, and in the case of the first two Diablo games play the same class again and try out the handful of different viable builds for a completely new play experience over its 12 years of life and resets.

Gear is a top level thing, it isn't important really, look at these lack of changes:

Oh and I guess high ratios between output and input are part of the reason too. Same effects from roulette etc can be gained in this videogame about demon piñatas.

Torchlight was pretty damn generic. It was fun for a few hours but got boring really quickly.

The only other action-RPG I've ever liked was Titan Quest and it's expansion. It's largely just as repetitive as all the others but at least the environments weren't the bloody same for hours at a time.

Installing Diablo 3 as we speak.

Why would you want to play Diablo 2 for 20 more dollars?

My character looks full retard at the moment.

That Skull shield's texture is pissing me off too.

Whilst I do agree with the sentiment in regards to gameplay, at least Torchlight has widescreen support.

I understand why Diablo 2 does not, but that does not make it any less frustrating. More-so when they deliberately break third-party plugins that add such features because they create "unfair advantages".

Am I a bad person for laughing at that?

On another note, this is just plain silly.

Played it recently

Good game

Don't understand the hype around it, it's not that great. Combined with the absolute mess of a DRM system and the problems it brings just makes me lol

Blizzard ruin everything they touch (or buy, rather)

It's the next installment in a 16 year old series. There's a lot of reasons why people keep coming back to Diablo videogames like some mentioned in post #308776. The best part is that each installment of the Diablo series has been radically different despite their shared simple control schemes. It's a shame to see ARPGs/hack and slashs like Torchlight 2 appear trying to emulate the past successes for nostalgia.

No, it was a little amusing. :D

New Barb pic: http://www.imagocentre.com/images/100/barblol2_60.jpg

I've gone from looking like a king at the end of normal mode, to king queer of Nightmare/Hell, and finally looking like a barbarian again at the start of Inferno. I've got rid of the skull shield too, but that's for my next picture.

It's a shame to see the developers of the very series we are talking about reprise the genre they pioneered with a new IP?

You're shitting me, right?

Viral marketting since Hellgate: London. No one relevant (that made Diablo 2 actually work) was on that game or the Torchlight series.

People who were in charge of Diablo 1 and 2 created Battlenet, and then took that vision and started a new company called ArenaNet and went on to create GuildWars.

Others who worked on D1, D2 and D2:LOD (team leaders) went onto creating Titan Quest and Grimdawn.

Torchlight has the music guy and... basically that's it. Flagship were full of the older D2 devs but that was of course short lived, as the talent went to GW.

Torchlight was just an insult to the genre, really.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Grim Dawn is like, if it ever comes out, as I still enjoy playing Titan Quest.

I'm looking forward to seeing how my own Barbarian will look, come Inferno. Though I'm most likely going to be going through Inferno as a Monk first. Not sure yet. Will see.

"Always online" DRM. It requires both your internet connection and the Battle.net servers to be online, even if you're only planning on playing singleplayer.
