Theres an option to turn off most of the shitty bloom and blurring in options Dae on the PS3 version, IIRC.

I completed GTA IV.

Before I started playing it, I'd expected less from it, seeing there had been no praising comments in this thread (or I possibly missed them). I'll put it shortly, GTA IV is one of most enjoying gaming experiences I've had. Thank you Rockstar! When this game comes out for PC, I'll buy the legal box just to show my appreciation.

Most notable features of this game for me:
- Graphics. I'm suprised the game handles it all so well.

- Atmosphere. You can watch TV, browse the internet (with hell lot of sites, emails, spam etc), hear the news on the radio. Pedestrians answer their phones, etc.

- Detail. The devs are freaks! Many buildings are enterable; Niko can pronounce any street name when telling the cabman where to drive, you can change ringtone on your cellphone, play bowling, darts, get drunk; wash your car (remember, in GTA SA all cars were dirty) etc.

- AI. The drivers follow the rules, and as well try to avoid collisions / crashes even if you break rules of the road.

- Story. The story is pretty fine, except in the middle I had a feeling I killed *too* many people. I'd only wish that there were more dialogues, story line details, cutscenes. And yeah, good thing is that itsn't so linear as in SA.

- Weapons / action. In GTA SA weaps looked awful, sounded awful and their effect was awful (e.g. remember that stupid mission when you had to follow on a bike the train with 6 enemies standing on it). Weapons and "cover" ability in GTA IV were something that distracted me from the routine parts of the story.

- Car handling has been improved significantly (I take back my words from the last message in this thread). If you don't drive too fast, you'll most likely manage to avoid even small collisions. Handling is still far from perfection, though, and the main problem are brakes that hardly work.

Some "minuses":
- Brake don't brake, as I mentioned above.

- Blurring, bloom don't always make the graphics prettier.

- In certain places at certain moments fps noticeably decreases.

- In all games I played, Russians speak on Russian with horrible accent and all Russian signs / name are incredibly stupid. GTA IV is no exception (well, DJs / music on Vladivostok FM is real). Come on devs, hire real Russians / immigrants for dubbing and signs :P But its really a minor issue, just I laughed when Dimitri tried to swear.

To summarize, Rockstar definitely learns on mistakes, and their definitely loved their work.

360:

1280 x 720 with 2 x AA and runs at around 29-30fps

Texture Quality = Medium
Render Quality = Low
View Distance = 21
Detail Distance = 10
Vehicle Density = 33
Shadow Density = Not available on the consoles

PS3:

1120 x 640 with no AA and is upscaled to 720p at around 29fps

Texture Quality = Medium
Render Quality = Low
View Distance = 21
Detail Distance = 10
Vehicle Density = 33
Shadow Density = Not available on the consoles

Just to shadow a rumour PS3 version runs better.

I thought GTA IV had an excellent online MP, good writing and decent voice acting, but the missions were mostly crap except for the bank heist... come to think of it all of the Packie missions were awesome.

But I was disappointed with the rest.

I still posit San Andreas was the best GTA so far.

And I agree with this statement.

GTA4 wasn't one of the worst games I've played, but it could've been much much better.

GTA 3 was the best imho

Also the bank heist was fucking class, by far my favorite mission

There was one in Vice City and it wasn't executed nearly as well

Definitely. Much, much, MUCH more variety in missions when compared to the uninspired "drive to location, shoot 5-10 guys, chase remainder/boss in car/bike/boat chase" formula of GTA IV.

Also, is it just me that thinks CJ sprints like a HUMAN? Rather than Neko, who looks like he's dashing on custard.

GTA 4 seemed to go on for ever. When you get fed up of doing missions and it starts to feel like a chore you know that the game is certainly not fun.

Story was far too long and there were few memorable missions. Certainly not the best GTA, that award still goes to Vice City in my opinion.

Saints Row 2 is the game GTA4 should have been.

GTA 4 story was shorter than SA

I'd probably say IV had the shortest storyline.

@ Kyle, YESSIR. But THQ should have made a better PC port.
